Angry USB-storage problem

How can i mount a usb-storage driver?
I run lsusb and usbview, and looks well.
Usb is on the bus 003 and device 003.
My OS is Redhat 8.0.

I tried /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb1.
It echo: ... not a block device.

mkdir /home/fred/storage

mount -t auto /dev/sda1 /home/fred/storage

note that there seems to be a problem with stock kernel and usb on redhat 8. **disclaimer: I THINK** if you get it working great. if not then it may not be you.
