USB storage device

hey guys, hopefully a really simple question for you.

i have some really important work on my mandrivia 2006 free laptop which i need copying onto my USB device so that i can take my work into university

however the USB device doesnt show up in devices.. which is very strange as it always has done, after a quick search i open up /mnt/{name of USB device} and copy the work into the device.

i unplug and plug it into my second computer.. finding out it isnt there :S

can anyone help?

rebooted and its working fine now, of anyone has a reason for this? might stop me doing it again what ever it was?

I had a similar problem once, actually it was exactly the same one XD

It only occured when I ripped the USB stick out without unmounting it.

In future if it happens again, try mounting it manually like so:

mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/something
