USB sound cards support

Hi there,

I'm using Slack 10.1 with 2.6.10 kernel and the last alsa drivers.
I have an acer notebook, so the sound is shitty.

I'd like to turn my computer into some reasonable hi-fi device. So I was considering buying an usb sound card - nominatively the Audigy 2 NX usb.
I've been browsing a bit around, and yet I still couldn't figure the actual state of linux support for this.

I'd like to know, so that I can just make up my mind between the optimists (at opensource.creative.com who think that the Audigy 2 "seem" to work) and the pessimists (just over here ) if someone indeed achieved to make it work well, and if not, what is actually working now.

Eventually, if someone has a suggestion on another usb sound device of good quality (I'm planning to buy the Altec Lansing FX 6021 that seem to require a solid card behind), please let me know. Or, if one thinks that AC97 codecs shipped with standard notebooks are enough for quality speekers, please do me the favour of saving 80€.

Anyway, thanks a lot in advance.
