usb sound card

i just purchased a usb sound card for my laptop and i cant get it to work in linux.. i just installed the latest version of alsa and when i run alsaconf it only shows the card that built in (which is broken).. how can i get it working.. its an opto play sound card by audio trak and i was told it works.. but i cant get it to.. i use slackware 10 btw.. thanks.
