Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

USB Sidewinder

I have a USB Sidewinder gamepad that is recognized at boot:

Jul 12 22:03:24 sephiroth kernel: input: USB HID v1.00 Gamepad [Microsoft® Microsoft® SideWinder® Game Pad USB] on usb-0000:00:1d.0-1

I wanted to test this device but I'm not sure where I'd find it on my system. I would've thought /dev/usb, but it doesn't exist. Any ideas?
