USB Scanners for Ubuntu 12.04

I need to add a scanner to my system. Any ideas as to which ones work with Ubuntu. None of the ones I have look at list Linux in their operating systems. I really do not want to reload Windows.

I use one from Canon's LiDE range, which are supported by Xsane. Mine isn't used very often, but it's still OK after 10 years – I hope that's not a case of "famous last words"!
