This is my first post here on linuxquestions.org and I am a bit nervous but here goes.

I have this imagemate 12 in 1 reader connected by usb cable since the dawn of time and I really want it to work on Ubunto. Yesterday I bit the bullet and installed formating my drive solely for ubunto 12.06. (latest).

I like to make things work so rolled up my sleeves and did some reading.
I have not tried the SUDU LSUSB command yet but I can't wait to get started when I get home. I am interested to see if it sees the device. Then I understand I have to play around with the mount command... but after I get a driver?

I just wanted to ask here has anyone out there successfuly connected this device or similiar to ubunto before? its on a dell m5030 lap top..(usb). there must be some generic drivers I can try to mount.

I could not find anything under "ScanDisk."

I can't help with a solution, but I might help things along by making sure the device is properly identified. And no, I'm not complaining about a typo--I made three in typing this little post.

I have a ImageMate All-in-One reader. No driver is required. When you plug in a card it should automatically be mounted.

its the one listed from sandisk

yes its the same model exactly.. 12 in 1.

ubunto 12 sees it but doesnt auto mount tho.. I tried playing around with the dmesg too command but couldn't figure out how to use the info.

I know i just have to use the mount command but can't get the syntax down.
cuz i can't dsypher the info correctly.

i also have a external usb hd listed above "cypress" i would like to mount. its running "vfat" fat16?



can you guys help me mount it?
I gotta go, my kids begging for some kills in black ops... i get waxed by that kid everyitime lol

As other members have pointed out, you should insert a memory card into the correct slot to see if it will be mounted.

yes I inserted a card but nothing. .i am not sure if that old card is good
so I am off to bug my wife for one from her camera so I can mess that one up

thanks for all your help.. I will keep you posted.. ubunto see the hardware ..don't know why it doesn't auto mount.

Look at the output of the dmesg command to see if the card is being recognised. Here is the output when I insert a card into my 5 in 1 card reader.

sorry i goofed.. that output is from the sd slot on the laptop not 12 in 1

output from slot on slap top with same card is..

it attaches but doesn't show a mounting point in file manager
in other words i think the card is good because it attached on the laptop sd reader slot

just to be clear.. when I put the card in 12 in 1 it does not make any entries in dmesg log

It looks like the reader is being recognised ok but not the card. If the card is good maybe your not inserting it into the reader slot correctly.

the reader is being reconized indeed. I get a green light when I insert the sd card in. I have been using sd cards for a while and had this reader over five years... model SDDR-89 V4 PART NUMBER 20-90-03066...

you are never going to believe it but every thing is fine
it turns out i had an adapter in the bay.not an actual card!! omg
lesson...some of thse flash cards can be tiny
