usb printers keep switching spots

i have 2 printers, one is at /dev/usb/lp0 and the other /dev/usb/lp1, i set them up, print and it works, then a few days later they switch spots (the one at lp0 is now at lp1 and the one at lp1 is now at lp0) so when i print all that happens is one printer starts trying to print hundreds of pages with about 3 characters on it wasting my time and paper because its has the wrong driver because CUPS does not know they switch spots

so is there any way to make cups know when they switch spots or make it so they never switch, i think its caused by one printer being off at boot or something, but i want that to not matter

If you're running devfsd, I don't think there's much you can do. You'll have to make sure the printers are switched on in the same order.

if you switch to udev from devfsd, it can be done. I don't know if there is a udev package for slackware. You could compile and install it from source. Just google for information on it. It is a bit involved and you should be prepared to manually fix the system from a rescue disk or some such.
