USB Printer Not Working

I have an Epson Stylus Photo 810 printer, which used to work perfectly with Mandrake Linux but I cannot seem to get it to work with Gentoo. I have followed the directions in the Gentoo Printing guide explicitly, and the printer shows no signs of intending to print anything when I send test pages to it. I cannot imagine what the problem is.

The usblp and usbcore drivers load fine; and I have both CUPS, foomatic and gimp-print installed.

I think with cups the printer needs to be switched on before starting cupsd.

Try powering on the printer, and then restart the CUPS Daemon. I don't know about Mandrake, but on RedHat the command is:
Code:

service cups restart
This might help, or maybe not :)

Baryonic Being, when u plug the printer in, see the output of "dmesg" and see if the printer is detected.
U can try the kde printer management from kde control center to configure it.

[Also, i use Turboprint (free version) for my canon bjc-2100SP USB printer.]

I now have an unusual situation:

The printer does not work with Windows (XP Pro) either.
Secondly, the printer does work on my laptop (XP Home).

So now I don't have a clue what to do. As for 'dmesg', I can't see anything that relates to my printer, and the KDE Printing manager does not help. It tells me that a test page has been sent, but nothing happens.

Success! I don't know what the reason was, but the printer now works on Gentoo as well as Windows. With Gentoo, I used the KDE Printing wizard.
Thank you for your help anyway.
