USB-Printer is driving me crazy. Please HELP!

Hi Folks,
even after 6 years of daily debian linux the printing system is still a miracle for me and so it seems for the developers of the linux printing framework too :-(

The problem:
When i try to print from e.g. xpdf the printer refuses to work.
The USB process uses 100% of one cpu forever and nothing else happens.

Here is the ps for that process :
6681 ? R 0:06 usb://Canon/i560 281 tosho (stdin) 1 media=A4 finishings=3 number-up=1 cpi=10 lpi=6 job-uuid=urn:uuid:eee6820b-0870-3a21-467b-fab1fa7a767a

After 2 hours of tearing my hear I just found out that I can print from xpdf if the page doesn't contain any graphics. I can also print the same document with kpdf (including the graphics).

I have no clue where to look for errors or what's going on there at all.

What I don't understand: Why is there no error message anywhere? How can the USB process uses my 2.2 GHz CPU without doing anything (usefull)? Is it polling the USB-Port??? Even with normal printing the CPU consumption of USB is quite high for such a primitive job.

I am using debian testing 64 bit on a AMD 64 X2 4200+

Try looking at Cups logs or messages log files in /var/log/ area.
see if any errors exist
