USB Printer frustration in RH 9.0
I can't seem to get anywhere with USB printing. My box dual boots RH9 and WinXP-Pro. The printer works like a champ under Windows but is invisible under Linux. Kudzu ignores it. When I use the printer manager the only queue shown is /dev/lp0. On startup linux initializes the USB HID interface, USB keyboard support and USB mouse support. I have tried several times to setup a custom queue using /dev/usb/lp0. However, Redhat says that the device "usb:/dev/usb/lp0" doesn't exist. I've tried other permutations: lp1, lp2, etc. Nothing works. The hardware browser offers no information about any USB device other than the root hub itself. In other words the printer isn't connected as far as linux is concerned.
Here are the relevant stats:
Kernel: 2.4.20-13.9
CPU: Athlon 900 (Thunderbird)
Mem: 384MB PC-133
MB: AOpen AK73-1394 (VIA KT-133 chipset)
Printer: Lexmark Z-25
USB: 4 ports
I have PnP OS disabled in BIOS
