USB ports do not pick external harddrives

Hey experts???
I have a tiny winy problem with my usb ports. I run slackware 11 on a toshiba satellite 1800. Now I have two usb ports which work well independently. as in when i plug a flash drive in each port it works. but when I plug my treksor external hard drive (which needs both ports to operate) in it it does not work i get some wierd error like cannot start error 110 or something.
any ideas what the hell is wrong?

What is in syslog after pluggin the drive in?

Hey, i found out what the problem is, the circuitry of the USB to IDE connector draws alot of power from the ports and thus the performance of the usb has degraded over time. Anyhoo' changed the connectors and its working fine now!
