usb pendrive mount

I have this question aboun what appens when a usb pen drive
is plugged; in my system I found that new entries are added in fstab
automatically (by KNOPPIX...), but they are /dev/sda1 to /dev/sda4
and I found that the right one to mount it is /dev/sda (which is not
added)

I tried to learn about supermount, automount, kudzu, but
still can't figure out what program is adding entries in my fstab, to
understand why it doesn't add /dev/sda ...

Can anyone point me to the right direction?

Thanks

I'm not familiar with Knoppix....but in RH there's a script you can put in /etc/hotplug

I assume there is a similar folder in or script in your distro
