USB Pendrive

The problem I am having is rather odd...at least for me. I had gotten my USB pendrive working using the mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb command. However, I read that you can automate recognition by modprobe usb-storage. After doing this and rebooting the Hardware Browser showed the new device at boot without having to mount it. Soon after I went on a quest to access the device. I am very new to Linux so I was just guessing where it might be. I decided to re-open the Hardware Viewer which promptly froze. I figured if I just went back to manually mounting the pendrive it might work (wishful thinking). At this point it won't allow me to mount the device nore unmount it (it says it isn't mounted). I also cannot access the device or even see it in the viewer because that freezes.

try to use ´dmesg´ to find out the device of your usbstick ...

what´s about making a link on desktop to (u)mount your stick?
think the condition must be, that you plug the stick always in the same slot.

I do always plus the pendrive into the same slot. How would I know what to link the shortcut to? Also using dmesg gives me a sinlge line repeated twenty times with a different end number. Here is the error line thingy (very technical I know :p):

keyboard.c: can't emulate rawmode for keycode 272 (mostly that number sometimes a different one)

At least the pendrive used to show activity...it still lights up, however, after tinkering for a while with mounting it the light goes off.
