I've tried to find as much info as i could on the internet and on this page, but i'm still stumped. I'm running slackware 10.1 and kernel 2.6. For some reason my usb mouse won't work. The mouse is just a Mirosoft usb laser mouse, nothing special.
I recompiled my kernel to include uhci, HID, Support for Host-Side USB, EHCI HCD (usb 2.0) support), HID input layer support, hiddev raw HIDdevice support (although i didn't always have this), Under Input device support i have Mice and Ps/2 selected.
I have all of this compiled nito the kernel itself because I read somewhee that that was the best way to do it. Should i make them modules? wuold that work better?
Also slackware is set to start gpm with the command: gpm -m /dev/mouse -t imps2
Although this doesn't crash, it doesn't do any good either. It worked in a previous kernel (2.4.x)
In my experience, I had to modularize HID and psmouse support, otherwise, the mouse wouldn't be detected (no kidding). You can afterwards see if it worked by doing cat /dev/input/mice and moving the mouse around.
I have OHCI and EHCI compilled in, YMMV with the usb support. HID is module, and psmouse module, as well as event interface thingy there for my ALPS touchpad. All I do is launch coldplug, and modprobe psmouse, my display drivers and atheros card in /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 ... I'm using gentoo, I know I give too much info, but it might be helpful to see how the other members load their stuff.
not exactly sure what i did to fix things but things are better now.
I have a feeling that after i enabled all those modules i hadn't run a make modules_install in a while so that may have been the problem
HID doesn't work with OHCI/EHCI if all three are compilled in, psmouse would make my USB mouse work unless it's modularized... I dunno, I guess it just is like that, gotta workaround them.
