usb mouse reezing (in linux AND windows)

Hello,

I have 2 usb ports on my compaq presario 2580 us. Every once in while the usb mouse freezes and the problem is solved by plugging it into the other usb mouse port. This happens in Fedora Core 1 and windows xp, so it appears a hardware rather than a driver problem.

In case this might help:

[root@localhost markhod]# /sbin/lsusb
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0461:4d03 Primax Electronics, Ltd Kensington Mouse-in-a-box
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

Any ideas? Or what else to print out to help diagnose it?

Thanks,

Mark
