USB Mouse Not Working on Fedora 5

I recently had Fedora Core 5 put on my computer. When I plug in the USB mouse, Linux recognizes it (I can see it listed under the hardware) but the mouse doesn't work? I've tried starting the laptop with the mouse already plugged in and that doesn't work either. I go into the preferences in the GNOME session and click in the pointer preferences to automatically detect when the mouse is plugged in....but still nothing?? The mouse works fine in Windows XP...Does anyone have a suggestion. Also, when I plug in my flash drive into the USB hub, Linux recognizes it right away and lets me open up files from it. I'm puzzled?? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Jad

Open /etc/xorg.conf and in mouse section change driver to auto. Then restart X and see if it helps.

Mouse pointer hangs frequently (64 bit)

Hi farslayer,

also check to see if the proper modules are loaded for a USB mouse..

lsmod - then look for the following moduules
hid
input
mousedev
# lsmod | grep hid
Code:
hidp 83137 2
l2cap 91585 10 hidp,rfcomm
bluetooth 116933 5 hidp,rfcomm,l2cap
# lsmod | grep input
# lsmod | grep mousedev

both without printout.

The mouse pointer of this AMD64 box hangs frequently, making the PC looks like hanging. But pressing [Num Lock] has effect switching the LED light on/off. If pressing [Ctrl]+[Alt]+F2/F4 switching init 2/4 it has no effect and the PC immediately hangs.

Please advise how to fix this problem. TIA

B.R.
