USB Mouse + Keyboard Activity = Freeze up in X
 

Hello,

I am having a consistent problem with my USB mouse freezing up under X when using the keyboard at the same time. For a long time it never bothered me because I rarely use both at the same time. But recently I installed World of Warcraft in Cedega and it has made the game unplayable. Obviously, for those of you who have played it, you are constantly using the keyboard to move around while controlling the mouse. For me, this is causing the mouse to shut down completely. I can unplug the mouse and plug it back in, or switch to a virtual terminal and back, and that will fix it. This isn't a practical solution, however, because I would end up doing it on average every thirty seconds.

I have been able to reproduce the problem easily outside of Cedega (by moving the mouse around while pressing keys), so I can rule out Cedega and World of Warcraft for the issue.

A bit about my system:
Slackware 10.0
Linux Kernel 2.6.10 (this happens under 2.6.7 as well)
Intel Pentium 4 2.4ghz/Intel 82801 Chipset
Logitech Trackman Wheel T-BB18

Other USB Hardware:
Plantronics DSP-400 USB Headset
HP PSC 1210v all-in-one

I have removed the other hardware and can still reproduce the problem, and the problem never happens under Windows XP. Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem running Fedora Core 3 with a USB mouse. No other USB devices. Still running kernel 2.6.9, the one that ships with FC3. System is a 3.2GHz P4 Dell, not sure on other specifics (mobo, etc). This is my workstation at the office, so I don't run any games.. but I still get this problem sometimes 10 times an hour, sometimes only a couple times a day.

Anyone else out there have a solution to this?

I also have this problem. Both in Debian Woody and now Debian Sarge, with X 4.3.0 under kernel 2.6.10 (KDE 3 desktop).

Like pix0r, this is my work machine a Dell Optiplex 270, 3Ghz P4 Intel 82801 chipset.

Maybe it's the 82801 chipset and Linux?

I'd welcome a solution too.

After doing considerable research on the problem, the one common ingredient I've noticed is a Dell PC. I'm almost certain it is some kind of issue with USB, Linux 2.6.x, and the Intel 82801 chipset (and possibly others used by Dells). The only workaround I've been able to come up with is to use the usb->ps2 adapter that came with my mouse, and since doing so I've been unable to reproduce the problem.

I think it is the problem with kernel 2.6.x may 2.4.x will be ok .
