USB mouse issues, gentoo/2.6.9

Apparently this is a problem lots of people are having.. and solving. I however, cannot solve this damned problem. I have a logitech usbmouse. It worked perfectly when i was installing gentoo with the liveCD (it was autodetected..)

Right now, the device lights up, but there is no cursor movement in console or X. I have tried

# cat /dev/input/mice
# cat /dev/usbmouse
# cat /dev/usb/hid ... theres nothing in there
# cat /dev/psaux
# cat /dev...many more

none show that the movement is being read.

I have an abit NF7 mobo (supports usb 2.0) and I configured my kernel to work with EHCI (2.0) and UHCI (old usb support). As i said, the mouse lights up.. appears to work normally there.

I have tried some solutions... but none seem to address the specific problem i have.

if i dont tell enough ask me for information and ill dish it out, thanks

hmm, thanks. right now i got it "working" but i have to have the mouse unplugged until the kernel is loaded. ill see if i can recompile my kernel (new version and also compile the uinput module to be loaded (which i think might already be the case)

chances are im having conflicting input modules being loaded that would cause the compy to hang during boot up. now i know which is the one i needed.
