Usb mouse doesn't work properly

Hello,

I can't get the mouse to work properly on debian 3.1 . I have a microsoft wireless kit. The install software can't detect it so i have to set it up manually. I couldn't find the right device for it (/dev/input/mice /dev/input/mouse0 etc does not work) so I installed devfsd. After installing devfsd I can use /dev/usbmouse both for gpm and x. The problem is that even though I can move the mouse around and click on things it seem that it generates a 3rd button event (click or release) every once in a while. This happens both in x and console. I tried many protocols for the mouse but it behaved the same way or even worse.

Does anyone know how to fix this? From what i recall I had suse 9 working with this mouse.

whats the input device for your mouse section in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file say?

can u try using /dev/mouse?

edit: oh i guess 3.1 doesnt use xorg by default.. so the configuration file is probably called xfree86.conf or something similar
