USB Modem - Network Manager

Hi !

I have been spending the past few days on this with no progress so I'll shoot this on here to see if anyone has any input.

First things first is that I'm an american in germany.

I am running on Debian Testing 64bit with kernel 4.9.0.

I have bought the 4G Systems XS P14 USB Surfstick and have a pin free paid for AldiTalk simcard. There are various tutorials online to which I've tried and have had little success.

I have created a default connection using network manager that can be seen here.

What is most peculiar is when I first plug it in it works for about a minute allowing me to browse perfectly fine and then shows it is not enabled, while it is shown it is when I right click network manager.

I have tried most of the tutorials online with usb modeswitch, wvdial, modem-manager-gui, and nothing seems to get it working other the network manager for the first few moments I turn on the laptop.

Here is some terminal information.

Hello and welcome to LQ.

The most important part of this story to me is that it works then doesn't. Rules out any normal can't get to work sort of complaint.

Guess I'd try a different install. Ubuntu LTS on a usb flash would be a good test I'd think.

Could look at networking tools to see more about the connection.

What is the quality of this device? From trusted source? 0]
[ 4454.214957] usb 1-1: SerialNumber: 1234567890ABCDEF

Could be some power issue. Some ISP issue. Some driver issue, some usb speed issue or what not just now.

Hi Jefro thanks for the reply,

I bought it from the source linked, it seems to be of "normal" quality.

I have used it on a friends Windows 7 computer with little problems once the drivers were installed.

I had also tried using Ubuntu 16.10 recently updated with even less luck (doesn't work when I frst plug it in).

Then you will have to start using linux tools to determine the state of the device and how it connects. lspci, dmseg seems OK. Now you have to go on to how tcp/ip or networking issues might affect it. Then look at how it connects or attaches to the ISP.

Might have to work by manually connecting it to the isp and keep watching for changes.

Seems that device has a bit of memory as reported in one site. Guess it could be shifting over to memory use and not usb use. A couple of web pages suggest USB ModeSwitch is needed to fix that.

Not sure why this didn't translate fully for me. https://translate.google.com/transla...4/&prev=search
