Question USB Keyboards & partial BIOS emulation

The hardware I'm on now is about 5 years old, and I'm nervous about my next big upgrade, because everything works perfectly the way it is, if slowly

I'm using a Logitech Elite USB keyboard, and my current motherboard is an ABIT KT7A series. I'm running the latest 2.6.x series kernels.

I've selected "BIOS" for the "USB Keyboard Support" option in the BIOS. This allows GRUB/LILO to see the keyboard, and boot succesfully.

After the linux kernel gets running however, the keyboard is seen as a USB device. This is important, as some of the advanced features of the keyboard only work in USB mode. (eg, the keyboard's scroll wheel is seen as an extra USB mouse device, with several additional buttons).

Does anybody have the experience to say whether this sort of behavior is standard for motherboards today? If not, are there specific motherboards I should be looking at that will let my USB keyboard behave like PS2 for grub but like USB for linux?

I briefely tried out an Asus Sempron64 configuration (can't recall the model), but something was throwing it for a loop where the keyboard was concerned.

For reference, I'm looking at getting into something in the AMD Athlon64/Sempron64 3000's, which will be a sufficient improvement over my current Duron 850 to keep me entertained for a while

Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
