usb hubs and linux

I have a couple of devices (video devices) that work OK when pluggen into the root usb hub..

However, when I connect them to an ordinary hub, they do not work at all, although the devices are properly recognized..

I have SuSE 9.2 with 2.6.8 (the default)...

What type of hub are you using? Is it self powered?

Yes, it is self-powered and everything else works fine on it (hard disks and sticks)...

Is the second hub usb2 compatible? Some high speed devices may fail to function on usb1 where as others will simply slow down.

The hub is a USB2-compatible hub.. So is my motherboard.

Could this be a problem with 2.6.8 kernel? One way or another, I'll soon update and install SuSE 9.3 or Debian 3 (2.6.11)...
