Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

USB Hub Failing

My USB Hub shuts down during bootup. I'm running Redhat 7.3 with a AMD Athlon 1.4 GHz cpu on a MSI KT7Turbo (ver. 1) motherboard. I was running 7.2 and everything worked. I upgraded to 7.3 by doing a completely clean new install. Everything looks like it's booting up fine. The hub initializes using usb-uhci. Then, as soon as the system starts to Get New Hardware, the hub shuts off.

The hub is a Belkin 4-port powered USB hub. I've tried to research this and have found nothing so far.

HELP!!!

Try the uhci module instead of the usb-uhci module.

Tried to modprobe the uhci module and get an error message stating that that device doesn't exist. What am I doing wrong??? I noticed that if I keep kudzu from running on bootup, the USB hub appears to work. At least it did until I updated the system files from 2.4.18-3 to 2.4.18-10 athlon. Maybe I should just leave well enough alone????

You might want to look at hotplugging to handle your usb devices.
