usb hotplug not working?

I am trying to use a usb wireless network adapter. I beleive I have all the correct drivers, however I can't seem to get my machine (redhat 8) to recognize that the device is even being pluged into the usb port.

From what I know, when I plug the device in it should create a message in a log that I can view with the dmesg command. However, no such message is ever created.

Is there something i have to do to enable hotplugging?

Kris
