After plugging in the device, run the 'dmesg' command in a console and check the last few lines. You should see that your hardware has been associated with some device file (like /dev/sda1 for flash memory). For flash memory you then just need to mount it on some directory. For a mouse you have to make sure X-windows is configured to use it.
If nothing in dmesg output, you have other problems.

hi there!
after plugging my mouse the last few lines are:
"usb 1-1: new low speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 2
ohci_hcd 0000:00:13.0: Unlink after no-IRQ? Controller is probably using the wrong IRQ."
I tryed Yast and Sax2 but I got nothing...
after plugging flash memory I found this:
"usb 3-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6"
sorry for being a bit newbie but..can you help me with this?
thanks, Rubber.

Hi,
I use a Traveller, Suse 10.0, external monitor, USB trackball, 2 external HDs connected with an external USB port replicator, an external Plextor and other devices: all on the same time.
Suse was originally even unable to install, hanging on USB detection.
- My solution was to reinstall with the option "irqpoll", no quotes.
- I also discovered that the option "pci=noacpi", also no quotes, you can add it at later time using Yast - system - boot loader, makes the suspend function working.
Hoping it will help!

Capodastro thanks for the help..
I solved the problem.. you told you had installed suse with the option "irqpoll" and suddenly a flash came into my brain!!! :-D
I edited the boot loader and I added "irqpoll" to the boot options and, hey, the mouse is working just fine!!!
I also added "pci=noacpi" but I didn't tryed suspending the computer, yet.
thanks!
best reguards
Rubber.

suspending a Targa
Hi Rubber,
happy to hear about your success!
Well, some additional informations about suspending. The sensitive point is the graphic card driver. I checked with all possible combinations and here is the result:
The 3 installable drivers are vesa, radeon and fglrx.
- Vesa, very conservative, works but not provides any kind of acceleration: check by screen savers. However, movies are good rendered.
- The driver downloaded by ATI, at this point the least version is 8.23.8, compiled as rpm package in the old or in the new kernel doesn't work. It breaks at least during resuming.
- the Suse fglrx, yast downloaded, provides a 2D accelleration and works also by suspending, It installs automatically as radeon.
- Make sure you have
Option "DPMS"
in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf, section Monitor.
bye
