usb HDD 2"5 MDK9.0

Hi

I am new to Linux and I have a MDK 9.0. I bought a usb HDD 2"5 (I have a laptop). How should I proceed?
I did the modprobe usb-uhci, usb-storage...
But then, what's next? I did /var/log/messages and got strange things:
[root@meini discs]# modprobe usb-uhci
[root@meini discs]# modprobe usb-storage
[root@meini discs]# tail -n 11 /var/log/messages
Aug 19 23:12:05 meini kernel: The failed "Start/Stop Unit" packet command was:
Aug 19 23:12:05 meini kernel: "1b 00 00 00 03 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 "
Aug 19 23:12:05 meini kernel: Error in command packet byte 4 bit 0
Aug 19 23:12:05 meini kernel: cdrom: open failed.
Aug 19 23:12:09 meini kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev 02:00 (floppy), sector 0
Aug 19 23:12:18 meini kernel: udf: bad mount option "codepage=850"
Aug 19 23:12:33 meini modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module binfmt-0090
Aug 19 23:12:49 meini last message repeated 3 times
Aug 19 23:12:54 meini modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module binfmt-0050
Aug 19 23:12:54 meini modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module binfmt-0050
Aug 19 23:13:23 meini su(pam_unix)[2163]: session opened for user root by roxy(uid=501)

Hope anybody can tell how to do! Many thanks to u guys!

On a regular desktop MDK loads everything required. All you need to do is plug the unit in. For my USB pendrive MDK create a desktop icon and mount point. You can look at the hardware detection GUI to see if the OS detects it or look at the output of dmesg and look at the USB messages.

Most of the error messages posted above are related to the CDROM and not the USB. Its hard to say with just 11 lines. Look at all of the messges using the dmesg command.

The mtrr error is a video problem. What kind of video card do you have?

Do you have a CD in the drive? And is it a formated as a DirectCD? If so MDK is also having problems.

So what kind of drive is it?
Might want to look at the links on this thread:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...+active+driver

As well as here:

MDK has USB 2.0 support. It worked for me on first install and no problems with my SOYO motherboard.

So post your hardware. Do you have a USB 2.0 port. I didn't see it in any of the messages.
