USB HD locking up SuSE 9.3 Server
At work we have an HP proliant ML 370 server running SuSE 9.3
A few months ago we got an 500 gb USB hard drive to back up to. I plugged it in and I started rsyncing to it for a month or two. Two weekends ago on a Sunday the server just locked up. I got this error when rebooting. "cartechdata kernel uhci_ hcd 0000:00:1d:0 host controller process error, something bad happened! cartechdata kernel uhci_ hcd 0000:00:1d:0 host controller halted, very bad! " This happened 4 times, the last number went from 0 above to 3. Now yesterday while rsyncing to the USB drive it locked up again. When it rebooting I couldn't find the error messages so I finished up the rsync. Of course, today during my noon rsync backup it all locked up again. Any ideas on what's going on? |
Have you tried that usb drive on another machine? It's possible that the usb drive controller is faulty and fails under sustained load.

But locking up the entire server?
