I have a 20GB USB Harddrive for my system and I wanted to mount it as a root for my music and my website. I have connected it to my system and I'm not sure if I have hotplug installed, so I always reboot to let it detect it at startup. It detected it, but it does not recongize it as a harddrive and give it a /dev/sdX address. Heres what I get at startup:
Code:
--> hub.c: new USB device 00:02.0-1, assigned address 2
--> usb.c: USB device 2 (vend/prod 0xe79/0x1107) is not claimed by any active driver.
reiserfs: checking transaction log (device loop(7,0)) ...
for (loop(7,0))
reiserfs: replayed 2 transactions in 0 seconds
loop(7,0):Using r5 hash to sort names
hub.c: new USB device 00:02.0-2, assigned address 3
xpad.c: device 0x045e/0x0284 not recognized
usb.c: USB device 3 (vend/prod 0x45e/0x284) is not claimed by any active driver.
hub.c: new USB device 00:02.0-3, assigned address 4

I'm guessing that I don't have any modules running or compiled into the kernel. Any help on how to find out if this is true? And how do you find a list of devices on the USB bus, like lspci? lsusb?
EDIT: I tried lsusb, gave me this:
Code:
root> lsusb
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0e79:1107 <-- Could this be it?
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 045e:0284 Microsoft Corp. Xbox DVD Playback Kit
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 046d:ca83 Logitech, Inc.
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 046d:ca84 Logitech, Inc.

Well I have two problems with that: no such module as usbstorage, and sd_mod failed to load. Apparently I need to fix these two modules, but I'm not sure how.
EDIT: Got it. usb-storage is obvisously different than usbstorage. sd_mod loaded after loading scsi_mod first. Thanks for your quick help!
