i just picked up a firelite 40 gb usb2.0 hdd for my laptop and cannot get it to work, ive compiled in scsi emulation scsi disk support and usb-mass storage when i booted i tried mount /dev/sda1, but that didnt seem to work i also have /dev/hda (cd drive) running under scsi emulation im using 2.4.22 any help would be great
Please post output of 'lsusb', relevant parts of your /var/log/messages file (when plugging in the drive), and any revelant parts (concerning usb, scsi etc) of your dmesg output.
Also do a search on this forum for usb drive and see what you come up with, there has been significant usb traffic as of late.
okay, i got it to work, but only after i booted, unplugged it, and plugged it in again, does anyone understand this behavior? it is powered by usb so maybe the usb devices are detected immiediately after the ports are activated not giving enough time for the drive to spin up and be recognized
If you have it in your fstab, it should automagically mount. But I've got a problem with that, as if it isn't plugged in, it sometimes does strange boot problems with fsuck... Did I say that, I meant fsck.
