USB detection

Mandriva seems to have a problem dectecting any usb device. Mouse, printer, external sound card. Is this something I can fix? Thanks.

Check the Man pages for "hotplug" located in /etc/init.d/hotplug

$ man hotplug

There you can get status, start and stop services such as USB autodetect...

Login as root before typing the command.
Type kudzu, its a hardware detection/config tool that comes with almost every linux distro(but its given by redhat)

Code:

root@localhost root $ kudzu
To know more about , kudzu, read the man pages.

Code:

root@localhost root $ man kudzu
After typing man kudzu , press enter. the manual page will be displayed.

I went into MCC and turned on hotplug but it still won't detect a usb mouse. Somehow I got the mouse messed up, what a deal that was to fix.

There is a converter for ps/2 to usb. Why dont u buy it.... this way u wont have to go the hard way ... sorry if this suggestion is stupid.
