Red face Usb Cd Burner / Mount Problem

SUSE 10
HP 8200 usb cd writer
Device detected by the system at /dev/sda. Edited fstab with /media /usbcdwriter as mount point , created /media/usbcdwriter. Whenever I try to mount either /dev/sda or /media/usbcdwriter I just get "no medium found". Same thing if I try to install from the burning software settings.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

Did you tried a manual mount, ie:
mount -t iso9600 /dev/sda /media/usbcdwriter

SuSE 10.0 uses udev and hotplugging by default so you shouldn't need to manually edit your fstab file. Also, you mount a filesystem and not the device. So if you don't have a CDROM inserted that is already written, a mount will fail.

THANKS FOR YOUR SUGGESTION BUT I STILL GET THE SAME RESULT "NO MEDIUM FOUND". A GENERIC DATA CD IS IN THE TRAY. WHAT I CAN'T GET IS WHY THE DEVICE IS DETECTED AND LISTED EVERYWHERE BUT I CAN'T GET TO IT.

A generic data CD is in the tray and I still get the same message "no medium found". You're right, the system detects the device and it's correctly listed by all hardware report utilies. It's also mentioned it's location as /dev/sda. Anyway if I don't edit manually the fstab file I can't find any trace of it. That's why I tried (unsuccessfully) manual mounting. Should you have any futher hint you're welcome.
