usb burner recommendations ?


anyone got recommendations for an external usb dvd burner? i'm thinking bout purchasing the samsung SE-S164L at newegg but have no idea if my laptop will detect it correctly. running fedora core 3/2.6.17.7.

Almost all USB 2.0 externel CD/DVD burners are dtected and work just fine.

Boot into Linux instert the drive wait a few seconds then have a look, as root type something like;

tail -12 /var/log/messages

cdrecord -scanbus

Buy an 5.25 inch USB/IEEE-1394 enclosure. Then pick any optical drive. I suggest using IEEE-1394 instead of USB because IEEE-1394 effective speed is faster than USB.
