USB ADSL modem. Get it to recongize with Fedora?

Em i am COMPLETELY new with linux. I have gotten fedora core 1 installed and i cannot get my usb modem to work. Can some one try and help me step by step to get my modem and internet up and runing? If you say google it blah blah, i can only find things that want me to have general knowledge of linux which i dont have. Help would be great. aslo at boot up i keep getting DMA errors, and it takes so long to load up.
