USB 2.0 PCI Card

I want to get a USB 2.0 card and i was wondering if Redhat 7.3 supports USB 2.0. Well it be able to recognize the USB ports on the PCI card? I am planning on getting on of the Adaptec USB 2 Connect cards. Has anyone used these before under redhat 7.3? Or would have to get a specific manufacturer's card for it to work within Linux?

I am asking because i want ot get a web cam never had one so i made up my mind today that i will get one and become a webcam fanatic. LOL

It's a kernel option, not distro specific. It's experimental in 2.4.19

Cool

Ok you say it is experimental. Does that only include USB 2.0? This is my worry that if i get the card install it Linux won't be able to see it and use the ports considering that USB 2 is backward compatible with USB 1.1

Well it work? Will i be able to use the USB ports on the PCI card at USB 1.1 speed? Or will REDhat 7.3 only recognize USB ports that are connected directly to the Motherboard? My board doesn't support USB this is why i am getting the USB 2 Connect made by Adaptec.

When in doubt about an interface type, always just type linux-device.org into a browser: www.linux-ide.org, www.linux-usb.org etc.

Is probably what you're looking for. It seems support for 2 isn't quite there yet, then again unless you're angling for needing something with ALOT of throughput, like a Harddrive, USB 1 does a good job and the cards are dirt cheap.

Cheers,
