USB 2.0 card, no devices register

I have just installed a StarTech USB 2.0 card into an old pc i'm intending to use as a router.
I recompiled the kernel and enabled EHCI, UHCI (both types) and OHCI.
When I rebooted the kernel detected my usb card and I loaded EHCI and UHCI modules without problems. It correctly detected it as a 2 port PCI card.

I mounted the usb proc filesystem again no problems.

However whenever I add a usb device such as my ADSL modem or a webcam it gives it a device address but then says the device did not accept this address.
It tries with another address and the same thing happens.

Not USB devices are registered.

I've used both the webcam and modem on another pc and they work fine. I'm using kernel 2.4.21 as 22 had some errors and crashed when I compiled.

Its a 120Mhz Pentium with 32MB RAM and Debian 3.0 installed.
The card claims to be EHCI compliant.

Should I try using a 2.6 kernel for better USB 2 support?

Thanks

I didn't want this one to die off. I don't have one of these cards but want to see what's up.
Please post the results of:
lspci -v
and
lsusb -v

Plug in one usb device and post
lsusb -v

Post relevant parts of /var/log/messages about that card and when you plug in a usb device into it.

Thanks!

I won't bother will lspci etc as I've put the card into a new pc with the same kernel and it works fine.

So what could be causing this card to fail when I use my old p120?

Really can't help ya without the output of what I asked.
Could be a basic power thing, where the pci slots are not getting what they need. It could be the chipset support, that doesn't know what to do with usb stuff on the pci bus, etc. Could be darn near anything, including the alignment of the planets when the machine was built
