US Robotics Modem

All right first i am a complete noob at linux and i was told to learn sUsE first. Well this is great and all but i can not get my US Robotics 56k modem to work. sUsE recognizes the modem and when i click on "dial in" there is a yellow lightning strike by a picture of a plug. It stays there for about one second. And yes the modem is activated. Is there any way to fix this?

us robotics modem

I have had problems with some linux distros when using a USR/3Com 3CP2976-oem model.

Is this the modem you are using?

RedHat 8 on up have had no problems with it, but other distros do.

Presently I use Slackware, and I only needed to edit the pppscript file to fix it.

Does typing "wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf" show that a modem is found and initialized?
If so you only need to edit the /etc/wvdial.conf with your ISP's phone number, your username and password, then type "wvdial" to connect.
To disconnect type "CTRL-C"
