We have got Wipro Net Power Dual processor based Server. It has got 4 scsi hardisk on RAID 5 card installed with Linux Red Hat Advanced Server. In between working it has stated making screeching sound and some times it hangs stopping all the transactions. It is loaded with Oracle 9i DB. The RAM installed is 3 GB on it.

The vendor had earlier told that RAM may be loose or it has gathered dust but after that still it makes sound. The hardsik are optimal during RAID 5 check up.

what could be the problem.

I can't imagine an operating system could know how to make an iron screech.. Where does the sound actually come from, could it be a cooling fan? Such a misfunction (stopping transactions) sounds like a big problem if it's caused by the same reason the screeching sound is..if I were you, I'd open the box and find out where exactly the sound is coming from, then see if the piece of hardware is broken (maybe even try to replace it, as a test) and if it's under warranty then call the manufacturer/seller. Are you sure the sound and the stopping of transactions are caused by the same reason?
