I have tried to install Red Hat 9 on machine together with windows xp pro, its important for me to run GUI on linux, but i have problem even starting Graphical Installation of Red Hat.

Hardware Specs,

ADM Athlon 1600+
nVidia Geforce FX5200 64Mb
DDR 1.25GB Memory
AOC 17inch monitor
Seagate HD 80GB and 120GB


I have no problems installing in text mode, it works fine but when i try to start linux in GUI the monitor flicks ones, and get messege on screen

ATTENTION
Out of Range
H: .2KHz V: 231.4Hz

If I get that messege on black screen, i have no choice but restart computer. I have tried to run linux in different resolution but no luck.

So what do i do to get GUI to work?

The problem is your video setup.

Your card is being auto-detected, but your monitor is not.

The give-away is the Horizontal frequency it is reporting. "0.2KHz" is not a valid range for the monitor.

It took me a while to search for this... Type the following after loging on as root...

redhat-config-xfree86

It SHOULD bring up the text-based version of the setup utility.

From there you need to select a monitor that matches your specs for your AOC in terms of resolution and refresh rates.

Please do not mark your threads as "urgent". Although the problem is critical to you, to the rest of the members (who respond to questions in their own spare time) it isn't.

A more descriptive subject line would also be more helpful.
