ups with redhat 8

hello, I have an APC back-ups SE? (not sure exactly what, last known it was not acknowledged to exist by apc's site

anyway, I got /etc/sysconfig/ups setup, and when I unplug the ups a message comes up (on the command line) saying that the ups is running on battery, and when I plug it back in a new message says that power was restored, or something similar.

the problem is, this is a *very* small ups - 5 minutes tops, usu. 2 mins w/ monitor. The warnings come up, but the computer doesn't shutdown. What I want it for is to safely shutdown (even better would be to go through shutdown, but not apm power off, and sit there waiting for the ups to fail. Then, when the power comes on the pc reverts to the last power state) immediatly, or after about 1.5 minutes at power failure.

any ideas?

p.s. Any way to get a notification to X when the power state changes?

The program that reads /etc/sysconfig/ups is called nut. Read docs in /usr/share/doc/nut-0.45.4. If you have nut-client installed you have config files in /etc/ups. The website for nut is http://www.exploits.org/nut/
