I have a server running ubuntu 10.04. Basic build with one hard drive. I would like to start running hardware raid 1 for some redundancy.
I was thinking about getting this card:

I'm wondering will i be able to just bring down the box, install the card, add the hard drive, boot back up to my running system after the drives have been syncronized?
or do i have to start fresh?
In the event of disaster recovery, if one drive dies, will it keep running, using 1 bad drive until i can swap in a replacement?
I'm a fan of raid 5, i've never used raid 1. I just want to have some ideas of the process before I invest in the card.
Otherwise i'm just going to image the drive thats in there to another drive that i install, and then use rsync to keep the other drive current in case the in-use drive fails.
