Upgrading Sound

Running cat /proc/asound/version produces: 1.0.10rc3

I've been told the latest version is: 1.0.11

I have been having trouble with poor quality bass output that I did not experience running WindowsXP

How do I upgrade to 1.0.11?

Thanks

Updating isn't real easy, nowadays the best way is just to wait until your distro releases a new version kernel. In the old days when alsa was not included in the kernel yet, most distro's had binary packages of those modules. I don't know (or think) that these still exist.

Of course if you want it now, there is another way. You'll have to have your kernel source (the version you're currently running), then go to http://www.alsa-project.org and check out the docs. Alsa drivers are really well documented so you shouldn't have problems.

If you intend to do compile the thing, you should be sure that it will solve your problem, because it can cause many more. So, maybe look first if this bass output problem can't be solved by some setting.

good luck,
Elluva

What card do you have? To be sure, you should actually ask this on an alsa-related mailinglist, those people are the only ones that can answer your question.

I am using the 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) AC'97 Audio sound card.

Where can I find that alsa related mailing list?

bad luck, don't think it is possible with some setting in alsa unless you see an Tone switch when you run alsamixer.

sigh, you could try the alsa project homepage.
