upgrading ram thinkpad L470

hi im upgrading ram my current situation is
sudo lshw -short -C memory
H/W path Device Class Description
==========================================================
/0/3 memory 8GiB System Memory
/0/3/0 memory 4GiB SODIMM DDR4 Synchronous Unbuffered (Unregistered) 2133 MHz (0.5 ns)
/0/3/1 memory 4GiB SODIMM DDR4 Synchronous Unbuffered (Unregistered) 2133 MHz (0.5 ns)
/0/7 memory 128KiB L1 cache
/0/8 memory 512KiB L2 cache
/0/9 memory 3MiB L3 cache
/0/b memory 128KiB BIOS
/0/100/1f.2 memory Memory controller

curious about the ^ one that says 8G system memory .. on the lenovo site it states it has two slots although the above output shows a different story ?

ive just ordered a Crucial 16GB DDR4 2400 SODIMM 1.2V (1x16GB) , so im wondering how i should configure it with the above options ? is it normal for it to say 8g system memory ? doesnt look right .

link to specs sheet = https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys..._L470_Spec.PDF

It tells you there is 8 GiB of RAM, two 4 GiB modules in two slots. 4 + 4 = 8
What you need all that RAM for, running Windows? Excess RAM won't make Linux faster, just draws more power. It is like adding more wheels to your car, won't go faster but MPG goes up.

i thought it might make gimp process images faster, as im using it for editing.

okay thanks for clearing that up , i thought the 8gig system was different to the 2x 4 g modules .. thought there was some sort of strange preinstalled soldered on ram eh...

it says my max ram is 2400mhz if i got 2666 will it just run at a lower frequency ?

and in future i plan to do 32g ram so i have the 16g 2400 module does that mean i need another the exact same or can i mix modules

If you actually meant MPG "up", bad analogy. Are you familiar with Bonneville, or MPG contests? More contact with road and more bearings and/or gears to drag do not normally faster nor more efficiency make. "Excess" RAM is used for cache, so more RAM can faster make, by reducing need for persistent storage device access.
