Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Upgrading Kernel: Graphics Hardware not Working

Hi.
I'm trying to upgrade my laptop installation of Slackware to the 2.6 kernel, but I'm having some problems with my graphics hardware. My graphics card is a Trident Cyberblade-XP. The logical choices in the kernel configuration lead to a kernel that, when I try to boot it, displays unnatural vertical lines that give me the impression that my monitor is slowly being destroyed. But I digress. Changing the settings in the Display part of the device drivers heading can lead to a frozen-screen-of-mess kernel or, in some cases, a kernel that boots up and works fine-- except for the fact that the screen is completely blank. I would appreciate any help or direction you can give in helping me solve this.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I think you are trying to use the kernels frame buffer drivers. Compare this .config to yours;

For the kernel framebuffer you will see I use vesa or vesa-tng.
xorg comes with its own graphics driver, compare this xorg to yours:

Thats for a toshiba TE2000

Thanks for the reply. I tried compiling the kernel with graphics settings as similar to those as passoble, but still I get no display. My laptop is a Toshiba Tecra 8200, if that helps.
