Upgraded to 2.6.10: ALSA crashes kernel

I'm using Slackware current on a laptop (Compaq Armada E500).
Since I upgraded from to 2.6.10 the whole system crashes, when
I use the external volume controls of the laptop. I could use these controls
with previous kernel version successfully and I didn't change anything in the
kernel .config-file.

Is this an ALSA issue? What can I do, execept downgrading do
Thanks in advance.
