unusal Modem -Motorola!!
 Hello all you Linux Heads out there .
In my attempt to get my Linux box on to a DIAL_UP hookup , I recently accquired a MOTOROLA 3512 CODEX external MODEM .
This unit plugs into my serial port (9-pin D-sub connector) .
Has anyone in this Forum had the Pleasure/displeasure of installing or using this type of exotic MODEM .
It sure ain,t a WINMODEM.
BTW, Just upgraded to REDHAT 7.3 , on MY COMPAQ deskpro Box <but only 64 mybytes of RAM> should be using 128 .
Thankx , you alll!!!!!

does the MODEM accept AT commands? (atdt, ath, etc.) If so, and it's
a serial, you shouldn't have any probs.
RAM problem:
You need to add the line:
append="mem=128M"
to your lilo.conf (assuming you are using LILO).
man lilo
less /usr/src/linux/Documentation/memory.txt
man lilo.conf
