unmounted CDWriter won't eject

Something seems to be accessing my Sony CDWriter (52/24/52)
and "eject -r" won't eject.

I cancelled an xcdroast (0.98alpha9) session,
(I know, I was warned)
and the light has been blinking ever since.
ps aux shows nothing resembling xcdroast or cdrecord...
The drive is not mounted (not in mtab), and eject just says:

# eject -rv /dev/cdrom2
eject: device name is `/dev/cdrom2'
[...]
eject: CD-ROM eject command failed
eject: unable to eject, last error: No medium found

So, do I just have to reboot? A better way??
System:
RH 7.1
xcdroast 0.98alpha9 (old.. I know)
cdrecord 1.10
SONY CD-RW CRX220E1

Please reply to bro at ufl dot edu
thanks,
John

If you end a session mid burn you can cause the drive to lock, and a shutdown/restart is the only way I know of to fix the problem. In fact, if it wasn't for this same issue a few weeks ago, my RedHat box would currently be on 3 months without a reboot. :(

you can toggle a drive door unlock (even when mounted) usind hdparm -something /dev/cdrom (or hdx, whatever u use)

In the situation that he mentions this would not be possible though. If you cancel a session mid burn the drive will not respond to any input, even using hdparm. I'm not sure why this happens, I just try to avoid canceling CD burns.

I was not aware of that, I will keep that in mind if I ever have that trouble, oh hear is another one:

sometimes when closing my cd-burner drive door (by puching it not the button) the door will pll itself in halfway then uddenly stop and will nto work until I power down both the drive and the ide-bus (whole comp) I have tried different adapters and cables and it still does it (other drives never do though) but it seems to lock both in the drive and on the bus, I disconnect and reconnect power on the drive and it still does it, but I yank the ide cable boom it works again (only after power down then on once more) I don't use the drive anymore anyway and I knwo the risks of power and cable while the comp is on, just a little brain tickler thing.
