unable to use internet in red hat linux 9.1
 
hi friends

well i m just a novice user to linux as i installed red hat linux a few days ago and after installation i also configured the lan card settings which helped me to ping the server of my ISP.

but even after doin so i m unable to acces internet from the same


my lan card settings in win 98 are as follows

IP adress: 172.16.1.9
subnet mask: 255.255.0.0

WINS server search order: 172.16.200.1

installed gateway: 172.16.200.1

host: vsnl.net.in

domain: spectranet

DNS server search order: 172.16.200.1

So what's the problem? What doesn't work?
You say you can ping a server at your ISP. Sounds like everything is hunky dory.

in the above problem i request u to please help me how to configure the settings of lancard as when i try to open ne website using mozilla it gives some error like .......... not found

yes i can ping the ip address of isp 172.16.200.1

as i have two lan cards on my pc so does it makes ne difference although i hv not configured the other one nd activated it

Your ISP uses 172.16.x.x addresses? Ok..
Can you ping 62.45.45.45?
Can you ping www.altavista.com
