unable to see cd-rom content

After a fresh install of mdk 10.0 official, i can't access the content of the cd.
That is: linux recognises that there is a cd in the drive, because in k3b, when it asked to insert a blank cd, it correctly identified wether it was a blank cd or not, but, if i insert a cd, the cd seems blank (although it isn't). Another situation occurs when installing new packages, and it asks for cd #1, 2,3,ect, it cannot read the disc!

Can anybody help?

Try "mounting" the CD - Not sure on Mandrake but with some distros (Redhat and Fedora and others) there is an icon on the desktop (Depending on your Window Manager) that you can right-click and then select Mount.

Try that and post back your results...

Does the burner work OK?
list /etc/fstab
ls /etc/fstab

cat /proc/filesystems

Does iso9660 show?

This is a puzzle. More info might help. What happens with
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
ls /mnt/cdrom

OK, I got it to work:

mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

and files appear when pressing in the cdrom icon on desktop, and

umount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

to clear the content of the cdrom folder under konqueror!

So, I guess mandrake isn't mounting and unmounting automatically, is that it?

How can I solve this?

Thanks for the help!

Very kewl

A better way of doing it would have been to:

1. Logon to a terminal session as root
2. Edit /etc/fstab (using vi or your favorite editor)
3. Add the following line:
/dev/cdrom<TAB>/mnt/cdrom<TAB>udf,iso9660 noauto,owner,kudzu,ro<SPACE>0 0

Then it would auto-mount in /mnt/cdrom every time.

Leave out the kudzu as that is a Fedora/Red Hat hardware probe that Mandy doesn't use.

I can't seem to make my drives work like I want
