unable to probe monitor

hi,

i switched from a low resolution monitor to one with a higher resolution and now i noticed that i'm unable to probe the monitor... the button is greyed off...

i am, however, able to probe the video card...

i think it's because the system is unable to probe the new monitor that's why i'm having problem switching to 1024x768... it's displaying 800x600 256 colors and very grainy...

how do i enable the probing of the monitor??...

thanks !!

What distro do you own?
Each one has different ways to reconfigure the X server.
Good luck!
